Getaway #3: The Virgin Islands

For my final trick, I joined a group of scientists conducting research on Guana Island, in the British Virgin Islands. I explored the forests there and looked into setting up a rare plant nursery.

On the way home I visited my friends Bill, Jannie, and Robin on St. Thomas.

Above: a banana flower, actually less vicious than it looks.

The falls on St. John

Robin took me on a lovely hike (and hitch hike) to one of her favorite island spots. This site was clearly sacred to the indigenous Arawaks, who decorated these rocks with petroglyphs.

Many thanks to the Ballards, who put me up in their fantastic Tarzan house in the forest canopy above Magen's Bay.
